Our Story

How it all started...

On June 14, 1914, a group of Methodists, gathered by Alfred Zartman, met for the first time at Country Day School located at 420 W. 57th Street, in Kansas City, Missouri. They imagined making an impact in the newly developing suburb of the city.

The following year, Walter S. Dickey purchased land at 57th and Wornall and built the church's first permanent meeting place, naming the structure in honor of his father, Nathaniel Dickey.

Taking its name from the historic district where the church is located, the name was changed from Nathaniel Dickey Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church to Country Club Methodist Episcopal Church on November 18, 1923 when a new Gothic-style sanctuary was dedicated.

With the formation of the United Methodist Church in 1968, the church was renamed once again to Country Club United Methodist Church.

Expanding the vision...

With a strong emphasis on helping families grow closer to God and to each other, a number of classes and groups have met through the years. Support for the arts, a commitment shared throughout the South Plaza, especially the Brookside and Waldo neighborhoods near the church, found expression in concerts, art walks, and community fairs.

Where we are headed...

Growing as apprentices of Jesus, Country Club remains committed to offering safe, creative, and nurturing environments where all are welcomed. Those looking to worship, pray, play, learn, and share will find opportunities in and through the church to use their unique talents, passions and abilities.
